Meet Owen
A Marine. A welder. A father.
Born in South Scranton. Raised in a row home that flooded in '11. Came home from two tours, used the GI Bill, opened a shop, and never thought about leaving.
Section 01 · The Corps
Eight years. Two deployments.
Owen enlisted in the Marine Corps three weeks after Scranton High graduation, August 2003. Two combat deployments — Anbar Province in 2005, Helmand in 2009. Discharged honorably as a sergeant in 2011, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals.
He doesn't talk about it much. The guys he served with do.
Section 02 · The shop
Brennan Welding & Fabrication.
GI Bill at Lackawanna College. Two years apprenticing under a Steamfitters journeyman. Opened the shop on Cedar Ave in 2014. Eleven on payroll today — apprentices, journeymen, and one guy who came home from Waymart Correctional and needed a shot.
"If you can hold a torch and show up on time, we can teach you the rest."
Section 03 · The family
Kate, Liam, Maeve, and Patrick.
Owen and Kate met at a friend's wedding outside Dunmore in 2010. Kate teaches 5th grade at Scranton Catholic, same school her mother taught at for thirty years. Liam is 12, Maeve is 9, Patrick is 6. Row home off Linden Street. Same pew at St. Peter's Cathedral every Sunday.
Section 04 · Why he's running
Because NEPA used to make things.
Coal. Steel. Textiles. RCA in Dunmore. Tobyhanna at full strength. Now the plant in Tunkhannock is gone, P&G Mehoopany has half the workforce it had in 2010, and the incumbent voted for every trade deal that got us here.
Lackawanna County buried 167 people to fentanyl in 2024. The DA cuts pleas. Washington sends money to Ukraine. Nobody is fighting for the 12th.
"Three families on my block have buried their kids. Three. That's not a statistic — that's the guy I welded with last Tuesday. I'm done watching from the shop floor."
